CAN I USE THE APPLICATION WHEN OUTSIDE OF THE PARK?

Yes. Your Parks Companion has been designed to allow you to plan for your upcoming trip to the park. (Or remember the one you just had!) All of the content is integrated into the app itself and does not require you to be in the park, nor does it require a network connection (see below).

However, please understand that our GPS Audio Guide will only respond in the vicinity of the determined waypoints. You must be within the parks (and on the roads) in order for it to operate.

DO I NEED A NETWORK CONNECTION TO USE THE APP?

No. The GPS functioning of the iPhone does not require a cellular or data network connection. Although there are weblinks to some supplemental information, you do not need to “connect” to any cellular network to use all of the application’s features. No roaming charges!

How to have GPS functioning and protect against roaming charges (when travelling from abroad):

AIRPLANE MODE – OFF

GENERAL>NETWORK>CELLULAR DATA – OFF

GENERAL>NETWORK>DATA ROAMING – OFF

WHAT ABOUT USING IT ON AN iPOD?

Because the iPod does not have network or GPS capabilities (only wireless), you will not be able to determine your exact location in respect to the mountains. However, all informational content remains available to you.

HOW CAN I LISTEN TO THE AUDIO GUIDE THROUGH MY VEHICLE’S STEREO?

That depends on how new your car stereo is. Many “modern” stereos have an auxiliary port that a simple patch cord will suffice, and most “older” stereos (with a cassette tape player) will be able to utilize a cassette tape adapter. However, if your vehicle is “in between” these two types (i.e. CD player only) you will need to purchase an FM transmitter unit. Contact your local electronics store.

A fourth option is to have a battery operated speaker (about $30) available. This will be better than the iPhone/iPad’s speaker, but may not offer you the preferred sound quality.
